Thorn training has now become the model around which training for mental health professionals working with individuals with severe mental illness is based. The outcomes and competencies expected through Thorn training compare favourably with The DH (2008) reports Towards a Framework for Post-Registration Nursing Careers and Modernising Allied Health Professions (AHP) Careers: a competence based career framework.  This also demonstrates how the Thorn course has kept pace with the national strategy for education and training.
